Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"On June 26th we had our roof replaced with a new roof by Artown Roofing Company. During this service their generator stained and ruined our driveway. They attempted to clean it but were unable to remove the stains that their company left on our driveway.
Now that we have finally received some rain we can judge if they did a good job on our roof. Sad to say for us they did not. We are smelling mold inside our home and discovered that our roof is soaked and allowing water to remain underneath it which drains in between the walls of our home. To add more injury to our ordeal this company labours committed some horrible against our home, our children, and our family.
When we investigated the smell we went to the attic found out the roof was soaked and they placed trash in our attic. (Water bottles and sandwich wrappers) we were shocked to find this especially since we had complained about how their labours left trash around our yard after they completed their work on June 26, 2012.
Our bill was 8160.65 we paid them 7551.65 we had to minus 609.00 because this was the amount to repair our drive way they destroyed. Now we find our roof was poorly constructed.
We have called Artown several times but they are not returning our phone calls.
We have pictures from June 26th 2012 until date. Please help us get this resolved.
Our home is located in O’Fallon Missouri the address is 8 Hidden Deer Court, 63368 (636-240-0356). Annita27@charter.net
Thank you for your assistance in advance,
Mr. and Mrs. Lay"

  • Today19 September 2012 we received an invoice from Artown Roofing. Can you believe them? They have yet to repair the damages to our driveway and the so called new roof is leaking causing more damages to our home, health hazards to our chlidren as well as to us, and another financial expense. This company has alot of nerve. We have paid them 7551.65 and we were quoted 609.00 to repair the driveway but they do not want to repair what they destroyed but instead want us to give them the 609.00 and for us to live with all the distruction they caused to our home.

  • Sep 19, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • Today Artown Roofing sent us another invoice. Can you believe this company, they have yet to repair our driveway they destroyed, and now after two months (not even a full two months) our so called new roof is leaking into our home, causing damages to our home and health issues to our children and to the rest of our family. We paid them 7551.65 and they want 609.00 more which was the amount we were quoted to repair the driveway. Well we want our money back in full because we paid for a new roof not an patch up job. This company lied and said they put a new roof on, and now will not return our money.

  • Unfortunately, Missouri does not license general contractors, including roofers. They are required to carry liability and worker's compensation insurance. It is within your rights to request a copy of their certificate of insurance. Read it to find out what the liability insurance will cover. In regard to your claim, write a letter, spelling out the claim, date by date, as well as the damages sought. Indicate that you would like to come to a resolution on this matter so you do not have to seek out additional legal advice. Do not make the letter sound threatening in any way because you do not want to put them on the defensive. I do notice from their website that they are part of the NRCA, which issues them a membership certificate as well as a certificate of good standing. You might want to include in the letter that you believe that they intended to complete the work in a good and timely manner and you are simply asking for the work to be corrected to the standard that allowed them to be a part of NRCA. It seems like that membership is used as a selling point so I would put the idea of contacting them in your back pocket to see how Artown reacts to your letter. They also have first and last name of some of their customers who have left testimonials. You might want to consider trying to find these customers and writing them a letter asking them about their service and if they had ANY issues. It might be that they did have some problems but Artown resolved them and the customer ended up being happy. I would not contact these people until you have exhausted the nicer options. I always believe in using honey for as long as you can before you have to pull out the vinegar! Good luck and I hope my suggestions help.
