- What information do we collect?
- We collect your name and email address if you file a claim or request an Alert.
If you choose any of the paid options we collect a credit card number and billing
address. We also collect your IP address.
- What do we use your information for?
-
We use your email address to contact you with updates about your claim or, if you've
requested Alerts, to send notifications when certain claims post in your area.
We use your credit card number and billing address to charge for any paid services
you have requested at PeopleClaim.com.
- How do we protect your information?
-
When you file a claim at PeopleClaim.com your contact information is always kept
private. If your claim posts publicly your contact information is not shown. All
contact between you and the other party takes place securely via the PeopleClaim
system--unless the parties agree to communicate outside the system, in which case
it is up to you what information you share.
PeopleClaim.com employs stringent security measures to protect you from loss, alteration,
or misuse of information in our control. Your password is stored in an encrypted
form in our user database. No credit card information is retained on our servers.
We monitor security functions on an ongoing basis.
- Do we use cookies?
- Yes, we use cookies, but only to preserve users' log-in status in its encrypted
form. PeopleClaim does not use cookies to store any sensitive information about
users.
- Do we disclose any information to outside parties?
- Your contact information is hidden on any publicly posted claim unless you choose
to add it to the public part of your claim. We do not allow users' names and contact
information to be rented, sold, loaned, or otherwise disclosed to any third party
for any purpose. The only exception is if you choose the "copy to regulators" option.
Regulatory and consumer agencies usually do not accept anonymous claims and will
often contact you directly regarding your claim. If you do not wish to be contacted
by regulators, consumer advocates, or media via mail, telephone or email, you should
not add this option.
- Are there privacy options for cases mediated by PeopleClaim’s online
community?
-
Claims post publicly only at the option of the claimant, and are available for voluntary
settlement recommendations from our community of online mediators. This mediated
process is viewable by the public and depends on public awareness and participation.
Claimants choosing to post their claims for public review and comment also choose
whether to remain anonymous or identify themselves by name. (Claimants' contact
information remains confidential unless claimants themselves disclose it in their
claim descriptions or public communication.)
A non-public channel may also be available for certain kinds of cases (such as divorce),
where the parties choose and invite mediators to help resolve their dispute in private.
Privately mediated cases will, where possible, offer anonymity and confidentiality
to the participants.
- How can users opt out of email communication from PeopleClaim?
-
Notification by email is an essential part of the claim filing process, and those
who use the system to file claims agree and expect to receive notification of claim
activity via email. When a claim is closed email communication ceases.
Parties with PeopleClaims filed against them can opt out of all communication regarding
a specific claim. However, ongoing claim information may post publicly regarding
the claim.
Users of the Alert service (a Search feature separate from claim filing) who wish
to opt out may click here, or use the opt-out choice wherever the Alert service
is accessed on the website.
