Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Insurance brought Bartwood Construction after a flood/ home-owners insurance claim. The agent and construction manager had a very strong relationship, so I trusted them.

It was like, "don't worry honey, we're gonna give you a real pretty new kitchen."

The flood was one wall in the dining room and the mold company took care of their part. I had actually begun remodeling my kitchen before the flood, but terminated painter/contractor when he billed me $5.75 a square foot to install laminate, had me purchase over 100 sq.' more then area, and installed it unprofessionally. However all doors had been removed. Bartwood claims what they installed compared to my prior cabinets, but the dining room still contained original cabinets.

The first day they worked they painted my entire downstairs bright yellow. (I had just had every wall professionally painted in complementary neutral shades.)

I was very upset when I got home from work, and project manager told me, "We just wanted to make you happy." (Look at their price break downs...they were charging me thousands to paint rooms not affected by flood.)

So Bartwood repainted, then came in and installed cardboard junk for kitchen cabinets. My daughters were home and reported they were in-and-out in under two hours.

They also dry-walled over my air conditioner vent, the water line fridge, and ruined new sliding glass door frame.

I called and said I did not want them back in my house.

After being harassed by the owner of company- I allowed him to look at my kitchen. He just seemed confused when he saw it and agreed to re-do it. I asked for samples first.

By the time I got samples I had to go out of state to have major surgery for my daughter.

She was in a great deal of pain and nausea when we returned and on six different pain medications and was intolerant of anyone working in our house.

When she was better and I called Bartwood Construction I was informed the owner was refusing to proceed until they were paid in full.

I contacted construction attorneys and was informed that this is illegal and I should offer to pay half ($5,000.). When I reported this nobody from Bartwood for the next 7 months.

This was February 2013 and by summer (June) I felt Bartwood realized they screwed up and I hired someone else to "fix" my kitchen.

I did not have a functional kitchen for over a year.

Bartwood Construction saved my tile counter, replaced cabinets underneath counter, and refaced cabinets above counter.

For $6,000. I had demolition, a new granite counter, a new sink with appliances, new cabinets (top and bottom), painted island, replaced drawers, installed a water filter, and installed custom handles.

Bartwood Construction sent me a bill three months after I had my kitchen remodeled for $10,000. I filed a complaint with state contractors licensing board for mediation. They opened a case for me but never proceeded."
