Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Century link is charging me more than I agreed to. On Sept 22, 2015 my daughter, myself, and CRISS at Century Link had a conference call. To her already existing internet account with them, we added Direct TV. She lives in Kuna, Idaho; I live in Sacramento, CA. On that phone call we were told my TOTAL bill for internet & Direct TV would be $79. But they are taking out $116.18 (from my Visa account). Phone calls to Century Link were useless; no explanation of the original quote, only that the $116.18 "is the correct amount". Daughter also called; was told "Oh, this happens all the time".

I never got a "contract" (and she doesn't think SHE got one); but daughter DOES get a monthly statement).

  • We "settled" only in that I didn't want to disrupt my daughter's service. They offered a lower price, but the PRICE was never the issue! On 2-3 "Elizabeth" could/would not answer my question about the lack of a written contract or the price discrepancy; she only said "You have the confirmation number" (which doesn't have anything to do with the PROBLEM). When I pressed her about it, she USED DOUBLE-TALK and was evasive, but basically said it was Direct TV that caused the price, "We just bill whatever they send us, we don't have any control over what they charge". BUT DIRECT TV denies making any CHANGE!

    SO the REAL complaint I have still DOES EXIST!! And, by MY research, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THEY DO THIS TO; it is their BUSINESS PRACTICE to SCAM everyone, but in such small dollar amounts people just don't want to deal with their double-talk (etc) and accept whatever. Incidentally, it took me 2 hours on the phone to reach Elizabeth in the "Loyalty Department" (!), after being disconnected TWICE, sent to the wrong department ("I can't give you the number, I have to transfer you"), and long wait times. Even Elizabeth had to put me on long holds (twice!) to find me a "special deal" that would bring my payments down to $95.98, from the $116.18 they charged in Jan & Feb (still not the $79 originally quoted). Per my request, Elizabeth said they would stop taking payments out of my Visa, and send me the bills. But "for some reason" I DON'T TRUST anyone at Century Link, so I had my bank CANCEL THAT VISA CARD. Which will cause more work restoring OTHER payments I make.
