Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I was exiting my 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD pickup truck about 3 weeks ago, when the drivers side door handle, broke off in my hand. I now have to roll the window down, open the door from the outside and roll the window up again.
I went to my local dealership, Tom Cantin Chevrolet, to get a new part. T he parts guy told me that this is a common problem and that it was going to be $648.00 to buy the part, because some genius engineer at GM decided to make this cheaply designed and produced item, integrated into the door panel.
I have spent weeks on the phone with nearly a dozen people at GM, and have either been laughed at, or treated like a leper. I do not know how to proceed, but this is a safety issue. In the event of an accident, if one were able to extricate themselves, it would require getting out the opposite door. Add to this, the vehicle in flames and the danger of death is increased ten fold.
This part is so cheaply constructed, it is a wonder, that it is not a recall item."
