  • Local Hertz branches definitely utilize bad and unethical business practices. I had a standing reservation for SUV. I was told about a great promotion by which I could upgrade to luxury SUV and receive $200 upon return of vehicle. The clerk proceeded to run down the charges and total of $999.80. I said NO WAY, I'm not paying that for one week rental - if that's the price, I want to go to my original reservation. The clerk told me not to worry that the $200 discount I'd receive upon return - Total $799.80, Upon return they handed my receipt that still said $999.80. I asked about the $200 promotion and was told it would be refunded in couple days. I checked and checked, nothing. When I called to complain and asked for manager, I got the run around, transferred call, hold, disconnects, voicemail. 7 total calls. I got return call from someone who claimed to be location manager. He was not surprised at all by the behavior so I expect this to be normal practice for employees to get their incentives. He told me that he would file a documented reprimand on the clerk. I asked "what about the $200?" He actually said, "if I can get the employee to admit that he did say that, he will credit the $200. But if he doesn't admit it, he can't credit the $200. So he can reprimand the employee based upon my complaint, but would need admission from employee to reimburse me?? Had I not specifically stated "if the cost is $999.80 I don't want it and wish to go with my original reservation" and the clerk specifically stating it wouldn't be after discount upon return - I wouldn't complain. But not for his blatant lie of a promo offer, I would have stayed with my original reservation. Very bad business practices and I'll NEVER rent from Hertz again, EVER!
