Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"On 3/25, after paying a big upfront fee for a prior consult and treatment, I returned for a follow-up apt. The owner/acupuncturist, Michelle Buchanan, decided to refuse service when she discovered I had low grade PTSD from excessive police force in a minor parking accident while in Canada last summer (never had police problems prior). She refused to explain why and left me in the treatment room in my stocking feet without my tests, which she had requested to make copies of. I waited 15 min for her to calm down and return and give me my documents. She did not. I went to reception but waited till there were no clients there (NO disturbance!). Then I asked where Michelle was. They said they did not know. I asked where my documents were. They gave them to me. I asked why no one came to the treatment room to give them to me. They said they didn't know how to handle the situation. I said that this was a bad way to handle a client and would do their business no good. I said I wanted my money back from the first visit because without another visit it was a poor use of my funds. They said they would check, and while I waited, without warning that I should go, the police arrived, totally traumatizing me, given that my PTSD was from a police encounter.

If they had warned me, I would have left. But while the police were there, they got permission to refund me, and I waited until the paperwork was completed. I had a valid reason to be there, and the police should be called for protection, not punishment---and certainly not punishment of someone with my history. I am under medical care for this incident and would appreciate $500 to defray costs. I would also like an explanation as to why I was denied service and an apology for the angry manner in which it was done."

    Isthmus should refund clients initial payment with an apology for the manner in which it was handled. Client paid fee and Isthmus did the initial test with expectation of on-going treatment; when company declines treatment they should refund costs. More...
