Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"On September 6,2017 My 18 month old arrived at the emergency bleeding due to a head injury. Upset at the fact that we had to wait to be called for several minutes while my baby was bleeding. The girl in the counter just said she was in the system and then left for the day. Other patients stared and were stating that the baby was bleeding. We walked out after several minutes and went to the STAT emergency where we where seen upon arrival."

"What do you think would be fair to settle this complaint? Are you asking for the hospital to review its admission policy and apologize or are you looking for compensation? I can 100% understand your distress and it sounds like a triage #fail. The receptionist (if you saw only a receptionist and not a triage nurse) should have made sure that you were seen by a triage nurse and the baby was assessed. If the ER was backed up and the wound seemed minor, then they should have explained that. But to properly evaluate your complaint, you may need to add some more details about what happened e.g. the baby needed X stitches / lost consciousness en route to the next hospital / whatever. If their delay wasn't unreasonable in the context of the baby's injury, you may just want to ask them to run a tighter ship."

"The ER was not full at that time, and we did not get to see a triage nurse. The receptionist told us to take a seat, my baby was still bleeding and I was holding a rag and applying pressure to her wound. We were extremely nervous because we didn't know how big the wound was, and I didn't want to stop applying pressure. We decided to leave after several minutes after asking if she was next, we didn't want to take any chances in something happening to our daughter. We felt that she was bleeding a lot and should have been taken in at least to be assessed. On our way to the other ER our daughter was falling asleep, which scared us because we thought she was losing to much blood or losing consciousness. We were speeding, trying to get there quickly while having my other three daughters in the vehicle. It took us about 8-10 minutes to arrive. We didn't have to sign in , they automatically took us in . The second the receptionist saw her bleeding she immediately passed her in, which was what we wanted. Our daughter did not need any stitches, but the doctor said that she had heavy bleeding because the head is very vascular. Yes , it was a minor incision but at the moment the bleeding would have you think otherwise."
