Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I employed the cleaning service, Maids on a Mission to clean my home after moving out so that the buyer could have a walk through before closing on Monday, October 30, 2012. I met the owner Jeanette ,the week before to go over the cleaning that would need to be done and this was agreed upon and she drew up a written work order and requested a $50.00 deposit which I paid her. She requested that this be paid in cash. On the morning on October 30th I met her at my empty house and again went over with her the cleaning agenda. She understood and said that her crew would be coming soon to do the cleaning. I had to leave because my movers were coming to move us into our new home which was about 60 miles away. I gave her a check for the remaing amount at that time and she asked that I change the check to her name instead of the name of her company. I scribbled out the name of the company and put her name above. She said that all work wouild be completed before noon on that same day. My realtor called me just before we were supposed to close and told me that the house was filthy and that I needed to come back to clean it. I called Maids on a Mission and Jeanette claimed that everything had been cleaned and she did not understand what I was talking about. I traveled back to my old home (about 60 miles) left the movers, and was shocked to see that the house was filthy. Rugs had not been vacuumed, floors were filthy, sinks and toilets were dirty, the basement had piles of dirt everywhere, and the garage had n ot been swept. My neighbor and his wife came over and he took many pictures on the condition of my house. There were four people who walked through the house with me and are willing to testify on the filthy condition of this so called" cleaned home". Then we proceeded to clean it. Jeanette did not fulfull her part of the contract and continued to claim that she had done her job and deserved her money. Of course, sher already had my $50.00 in cash and my check. I have paid her $230.00 and no work was done. What can I do to get back my money and to warn other people about this scam? Sincerely, Christine Ulijasz"

  • I googled this business and found the following listing: http://www.angieslist.com/companylist/us/wi/milwaukee/maids-on-a-mission-reviews-6342882.htm. I am unsure if this is the same one but it might help you retrieve the money if you contact the owner and ask for a refund because you would hate to have to put an unsatisfactory review on this site (be careful in how you word it if you are going to approach it from this angle because it can sound like blackmail or a veiled threat and you don't want to put her on the defensive. At this point, she has your money). Getting a lawyer to take this on contingency for this amount of money doesn't make sense. At best you could get a lawyer to write a letter on your behalf requesting the money and perhaps stating a few statutes about breach of contract or fraud but you would end up paying more money than you would receive if she actually paid you what you are requesting. Another option is to ask her to come and clean your new house in lieu of refunding the money, but this time you would be present when her crew came over. You could also file a claim in small claims court for a nominal fee. I hope you are able to resolve this issue.
