Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Michigan Builders was referred to us by Tim Bexten at The Andersons to install our newly purchased kitchen cabinets. The job done by Mr. Dean Coulter, owner of Michigan Builders took too long and was poorly done. Cabinets were dented and poorly installed and the flooring was chipped in a couple of places. The pamphlet Mr. Coulter handed us when he came to give us an estimate stated they pride themselves in quality workmanship. Their workmanship left much to be desired. We have had the representative from The Andersons and from Wellborn, the cabinet company in to evaluate the job. Wellborn assumes no responsibility for the quality of the cabinets and has told us it was The Andersons responsibility to make things right. The Andersons representative has been very considerate."

  • We were busy breaking up the boxes when the cabinets were being unpacked. We did not look at any of them. Thought you would point out any damages. You put one cabinet up and left a screw hole in it and put another screw in about an inch higher. You rubbed the finish off the spacer above the sink. You left clamp marks on a couple of the upper cabinets. There is a crack in the base drawer cabinet. All of these items have been pointed out to the people from Andersons and the company representative. You can talk to them and they will verify what we say is true. The Andersons sent out their flooring rep and he was able to fill the dents but could not do anything with the scratch.

  • The cabinets were not damaged when we removed them from the box's you were there as we were doing that and you looked at all of the cabinets as we pulled them out, nothing was cracked or dented even after installation. The whole problem I have with all this is that you NEVER contacted us about any concerns I even took it upon myself to replace a door that was unknown to me. If there was such an issue about the work you should have contacted me about it and I would have come and resolved it with you. I have never ever left a job unsatisfactory. It's really upsetting and surprising to me that you have taken this route because all the while we were doing the job you did nothing but compliment to us about the work we never had any words of anger or dissatisfaction. In fact if you remember before we started I spotted a problem with the layout and suggested to change a couple of cabinets to make everything work properly. Just to reiterate we pride ourselves in quality craftsmanship and if there was any concern about that you should have contacted me, the way you are going about this is very hurtful and unnecessary. Also I did not take any flooring the only flooring I left with were cutoffs.

  • Thank you for using Michigan Builders. We have been in business for more than 30 years making customers happy! We at Michigan Builders are experts in remodeling and installation of cabinetry and have also received certification from the Wellborn Company to install their cabinets specifically. We certainly want to address this issue as we welcome new customers daily. First let me say that I am shocked that this claim was made. We were never aware of any dissatisfaction from the Brady’s. Both Mr. and Mrs. Brady expressed daily compliments on our work. There was never a harsh word or any indication of being unsatisfied with the job. Michigan Builders was never contacted by the Brady’s to discuss any problems or dissatisfaction with the installation. I will indicate what I remember from this job to the best of my knowledge. I was approached by The Andersons store to contact the Brady’s and give them an estimate for “installing” beautiful Wellborn cabinetry in their home. Michigan Builders are the installers only. We do not design nor order the cabinets. Once the cabinets came in we started the job. The old cabinets were torn out and we started to install the new ones using the layout given to us. We left that night and came back the next day to finish the installation per our layout. Mrs. Brady had noticed that one of the cabinets over the stove was not right. At that point we immediately called The Andersons and got it ordered. Unfortunately cabinets take 15 days to arrive. As soon as we were able to get the cabinet we came back and installed it. At this point Mrs. Brady had changed her mind and decided she did want us to install knobs on the doors and drawers which we did. At one point we also had to reorder a piece of crown molding because the one that came in for the job was warped. We got the molding that night from The Andersons and came the next day to finish up. We even came back with a new door that apparently Mrs. Brady wasn’t happy with which we were never made aware of. She was evidentially not happy with the finish. The Andersons told me about the new door when I was in the store picking up another order. I called Mrs. Brady that very minute while still in the store to arrange a time to replace the door. I made it happen that very day. At that point Mr. and Mrs. Brady were very happy with everything and again complimented us on the work. They spoke highly to me and thanked us many times for a great job done. The Andersons contacted us sometime later and informed us that the Brady’s had called there and they were extremely upset about their cabinets finish and they wanted all new doors. At this time they also said the installation of the cabinetry was done wrong. The Andersons offered for Michigan Builders to come out and talk to them however they refused. Michigan Builders has a great reputation and is outstanding in customer service. I guarantee that if cabinetry was installed improperly we would have made it right. Regretfully we never had the chance. Later I was told by The Andersons reps and the Wellborn Regional Rep., after they visited the Brady home, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the installation of the cabinets. It was apparently a finish issue that Mrs. Brady had on the doors and drawers. I feel bad that you have taken this route and expressed your feelings on the internet without so much as a call to us. We pride ourselves in the work we do. We do our best to make sure everything is done correctly and professionally. This is why we have been in business for 30 years. Kindly, Dean Coulter, Owner

"There was nothing wrong with the installation and I was not contacted by the claimant of any problems. If this proceeds I will have no other choice but to take legal action for slander against the claimant. This is unreasonable abuse I have never had any problems or complaints like this in the 30 years I've been doing business. So I ask that this gets removed from the sight immediately."
