Claimant says:
"On 3/29/2012, Roto Rooter responded to a call that I was having backup - water was coming in the house. They rotted and found there was a section of the sewer pipe under the front lawn which had collapsed. Thus, the water couldn't get to the main sewer line. The plumber, Greg Austin, told me that they would have to dig up the front lawn to replace the pipe, and they would do that the next day. The cost would be $3,262 on the 29th and $3,262 on the 30th. The total dig time was 5 hours. Due to the severity of the backup, I was not in a position to get other bids. I believe that they took advantage of the situation, knowing that I was vulnerable. I am in my 60's and retired, living in the village of Barrington. I believe that their quote was completely subjective to what they saw. They knew I had no other options, so their quote was completely out of line. I have since had a reputable plumber out to give me a quote for the same job. He said that his quote, hourly, would have been approximately $1500, tops $2,000 if he ran into any snags. I made many calls with only one response after weeks. A man named Chris Kauth finally returned my call, and he said there was nothing they could do to alleviate this outragious quote. The address of Roto Rooter is 1975-77 John's Dr., Glenview, IL 60025.
