"On July 22, 2011, Carl Bowling, owner of Southern Exteriors, installed a Basement Watchdog Battery in my home. He told me he had bought a 24-hour back up, and the very best. He charged $1,292.30, check #2100, for this Watchdog Battery, and his plumber charged $275.00, check #2099 for installation. Carl was not present at time of installation, but the plumber, Chris Ramsey, said he did not have the manual and warranty with him. He thought he had put it in his truck, but found he had not. I wrote three times after this, to obtain the paperwork. Carl Bowling would not repond to my letters.
On the date of December 23, 2011, the battery was beemping and saying defective. I called in a plumber, of which I can supply all paperwork, and he told me the battery was only an 8 hour back up, and it should hav cost about $200. The battery was leaking acid, and I have little dogs. The plumber removed the battery from the premises.
I then called Carl, to tell him what happened, and he denied he had received three letters, only one, although I used the same address and had a return address on each envelope. In fact, I know that Carl Bowling did receive another letter, because I had enclosed a $50 check for him to mail all the paperwork back to me. The check was cashed, so this is proof that he did receive more than one letter.
Carl Bowling told me on the phone today that he will say that paperwork was left. This is not true, and there would be no reason I had to write to him, if the paperwork had been left.
Aside from that, the battery should have also had a warranty of more than five months - from July 22 - December 23.
Carl Bowling was rude on the phone, and when I said I would have to report this, he said "see you in court". He was unconcerned the amount of money I was out for a defective battery.
I told Carl I had hoped we could settle this matter between us, but he was not concerned to do this. I was even willing to take not ask for the plumber's fee back, and even give him the $292.00 for his trouble, but was asking for a refund of $1,000, as I have to pay the plumber who removed the defective battery, and will have to buy a new one - since I do not have the warranty which should have been left after installation of the Watchdog.
Sincerely,
Diane Kay Byram"
