Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Mr. Stoval has repeatedly refused to fulfill the contract to complete the remodel after being paid in full. Mr Stoval began our project almost a year ago (which he promised would take a few months. This was a $100K+ contract. He is a nice guy but began to persistently and consistently demand payments ahead of schedule citing hardship and need. We reluctantly complied because we felt the project would be completely aborted if we didn't. As long as we met his demands he would show up. When we pushed back, he would pull his crew from the site and take off. We felt like hostages. After completing about 80% of the job he had figured out a way to get his money out and leave us with $1000s of dollars of bills from supplies (which topped our contract and then disappeared. He refuses to respond to me and it has been some 6 weeks. He had some family issues (which we extended grace to over) but has since completely ignored any communication on our end. We have begun hiring contractors to do what we have already paid Mr. Stoval to do. Towards the end he began to overcharge us for things outside of the contract that were not legitimate charges and was often belligerent to deal with. After taking residence in the home, the remodeled wall in the basement was leaking in the bathroom. We hired another guy to come investigate the situation and he found that Stoval Glass did NOT tightly seal one of the joints and water was pouring out into the wall because the joint had only been hand tightened (we have discovered this problem with the gas joints/electrical connections and other things half done in the home). The bathroom/shower walls are having to be replaced. This has been a complete nightmare."
