Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I thought I was buying used car but it turned out to be a wrecked car. The dealer claims to have a 140+ point inspection on used cars and do a car fax report so the buyer can trust that it is a used car and not a wrecked one. I was never shown any such report and bought the car with a warantee -that wasn't honored. I made appointments and was stood up twice. I sent a registered letter April 1, 2016 and have received no response. It ought to be against the law to sell a wrecked car as a used car unless you told and you chose to buy it anyway.
The bumper was loose after buying the car and driving it home. I brought it back and it was sent to a body shop for repair but never really fixed. All the lug nuts were too small and had to be replaced so the wheels didn't fall off and cause an accident. The master brake cylinder had to be replaced. The battery tray and hold down had to be fixed and the battery replaced and the mechanic wrote in his repair notes "Vehicle a crash rebuild, found damage from improper body repairs to battery tray and hold down...made forward stop for hold down and installed new battery. " A friend and former car dealership owner did a car fax report and proved the car had been wrecked in November of 2009. The car is still having problems so we go back to the mechanic and he did more repairs, "Found incompetent fog light installation causing draw on battery. Previous installer used wrong switch (Tacoma) and made new hole for switch. Removed all randomly spliced and attached wires. Removed unfused wire from battery to underdash area. Rewired fog light with stock wiring. Had to remove front bumper cover for access. Found many fasteners and tabs missing or wrong or broken (remember it had been send for body work within the first days of my owning this car and yet it had never been fixed right.) Some bumper support parts and pieces missisng. Built new support for upper bumper holder. Secured bumper cover as best possible." I don't think any 140+ inspection was ever done on this car and I was never shown a car fax report. It's false advertising. The new management doesn't care about customer service or making anything right. It's buyer beware. They got me and apparently there is nothing I can do about it but make others aware of their business practices and false advertising. Over the past 30 years I had purchased 4 other cars from this dealership, but this time I came alone because my husband isn't well, and boy did I get screwed. When buying a car from Toyota of Bountiful, there is no guarantee that the car you buy is used and not wrecked unless you buy it "new." Don't expect an apology, an oil change, reimbursement for all the repairs that had to be made, or a good deal on a trade in -- even if you offer to pay cash. Expect to be stood up and ignored and lets see how many customers come back."
