Barbara C. says:
Chad was hired to do a small kitchen renovation. I signed a contract that said work would be complete in 5 days. This original contract was for tile backsplash, Pergo laminate floor, removal of old linoleum if necessary (which was not necessary after all), and replacing top on two base cabinets, which ended up being only the joining and leveling of these cabinets. He started work on 3-1-16, and as of today, 4-9-16 my kitchen is still incomplete. Admittedly, I made come add-ons, such as new range hood, and reconfiguration of two cabinets. He re-painted both cabinets, which was not agreed to but which I understand, but opposed to original smooth, glassy finish, they were returned to me with surfaces that felt like sandpaper. Doors and shelves were missing. I did add-on new handles for cabinets and agreed to a shiny chrome finish; he alleges he fabricated these handles himself, problem is some of them are shiny and some are matte. When the laminate floor was installed, it does not meet the floor to the powder room with gaps of 1-1/2" and 1-1/16". He says the threshold will cover that up, but with that type of void underneath, it will not take very long for the threshold to crack/break when stepped on. The range hood is still not installed, the baseboards and thresholds are not installed, and were just simply put in my shed by two of his workers. The last time anyone from his company was here to work was Thursday, 3-24-16. I have called those two workers 3 times, I have called Chad and his wife numerous times, and nobody has even returned my calls. Last evening, 4-8-16, I went to Chad's home to get 3 shelves which he did not return to me for one of the cabinets he reconfigured. We discussed this project, and he assured me he would be here this morning (4-9-16) to finish the work. He asked that I e-mail last night with all the items not complete or with which I was dissatisfied. I sent him a list of 15 items. He has not responded to the e-mail, he has not called, he has not shown up at my house (and it is now3:34 p.m.). With the add-ons I made, I did pay him a little more than the cost on the contract., and really did not have a problem with that. You see Chad is supposedly a friend, has done work for me in the past, has done work at our church, so I had no real concerns. Wrong! He is one of the most dishonest, untrustworthy persons I have ever met. He does less than shoddy work. AND.....after much going back and forth with the agency to get his Certificate of Insurance, I was told they could not issue this certificate to me as "there was a problem". So therefore, he does not have insurance, as I still have not received it, and I even made a visit at the agency's office. Taking a BIG risk if you hire him. So my recommendation is DO NOT USE HIM, first for the shoddy quality of work, no integrity, and no insurance. Barbara
