James M. says: I was scheduled to take an IBC flight from FLL to Naval Station Guantanamo. The aircraft was brought to within walking distance of the terminal. About 15 minutes after the scheduled departure time we marched out to the aircraft, only to stand there for about 10 minutes - with no explanation as to why. Then we were told to turn around and march back into the terminal. Once inside the terminal we were told that something was wrong and that we could not board the aircraft, and that more information would be forthcoming. About an hour later we were told that the aircraft had a broken part, and that a replacement part and a mechanic were on the way. Over an hour later we were told that the aircraft was broken, and that the flight was cancelled. The IBC agents told us that the next day we should be able to get out. When asked about hotel vouchers for the night, we were told that the airline bears no responsibility for our lodging. The agent told us that the best we could do was to go to a particular hotel that would charge us only $99 per night. Though I could have borne the cost of the extra night in Fort Lauderdale, a number of the persons on the flight were junior enlisted persons for whom such an expense would be a major burden.

Because of the cancelled flight, I had to postpone my trip to NS Guantanamo until a later time. My Administrative Assistant has asked for a refund of the ticket cost, and thus far the IBC representatives are resisting our request. Their response is that they can give us a credit for a later flight. This is not what we want. We want a refund.
