My wife has a Medico Dental Insurance Policy that has a $1,500 annual limit. The premium is paid automatically from our bank account. On July 1, 2020, my wife had 2 dental crowns completed by her dentist. The total charge for the 2 crowns and an X-ray was $3,847. Medico paid $23.25 for the X-ray and $209.40 for the crowns for a total of $232.65 claiming that she only needed one filling and no more. Medico had previously pre-approved the procedure but the pre-approval had expired in June due to my wife delaying having the procedure done because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The cost of the procedure was extraordinarily high but nevertheless, we were aware the insurance would not cover 100% of the cost. The dentist demanded full payment the day of the procedure. We have contacted Medico and their "review experts" P&R Dental Strategies numerous times related to her claim. They asked for more information. My wife's dental office has sent X-rays and photographs at least 4 times as requested to Medico and P&R. As requested, the dentist has written a letter of explanation as to why the crowns were required. Medico has still not paid a penny more. Every time we call, we wait and wait and wait for someone to answer then we get a different person. We go through the entire process again while they are pulling up their notes on their computer. Everyone promises to call back. They never do. Today, January 5, 2021, we were told that we needed to contact their Grievance Coordinator in Iowa and to have a nice day. If you have an insurance policy with Medico, I recommend that you cancel it today. If you are considering purchasing insurance from them, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. Medico will string you along forever hoping that you will give up on your claim while still sending them those automatic premium payments. I have told the insurance agent that recommended this company that if I hear of him recommending them to anyone else, *&$@%^$&^%&*.

The company did not issue my policy for several months. The effective date of coverage was 08/01/2015, but was not mailed to me until 12/21/2015, I received two days later, on 12/23/2015. (This was not due to the agent, the policy had not been processed)
A portion of the policy had immediate coverage, and my dentist's office submitted my claim electronically the first week of September 2015. I never received any correspondence relating to this claim, or anything else, for that matter. Except the company was always deducting the premium from my bank account monthly. After 3 months. I emailed the agent on 12/02/2015, asking him if he could find out why I had not received a determination on this claim. When he emailed back, he told me they claimed they just received that claim on 12/02/2015. Quite a coincidence, being the exact day I had contacted the agent, and he contacted the company about my claim never being processed, and policy never received.
No, I would never recommend this company, and I am cancelling, now that I finally got the claim paid. I would never, by choice, ever use a company that will blatantly misrepresent the facts (lie), instead of just admitting their fault, and getting it corrected.
To experience what I have, with Medico, they are either very incompetent; or intentionally wanting to write insurance, and collect our premiums, then hoping we forget we are insured with them, or will not be persistent at claim time.
There are good companies out there, that operate ethically. This time, I was not so fortunate. They cost me much more time than necessary, to get a legitimate claim paid. Of course, after the company admitted they had my claim, they processed, and I received it in about a month.
I have not decided yet, if I will report Medico to the Kansas Insurance Department, I have spoke with the Insurance Dept., as I was still waiting for my policy, and claim reimbursement. If I do report, more time needs to be spent, making copies, and submitting my written complaint.
Companies that operate like Medico, are a major waste of time; and probably to most consumers, money too.
