Barbara M. says:
I ended up signing a lease with Reserve at Riverbridge back in 2016 along with my husband who was very ill at the time.
we had sold our house and needed an transition apartment until I was done working and we would eventually end up in our home in Ocala. Despite a lot of negative reviews, I went to look at the complex and the short story is I left a deposit. I went home and looked further at the reviews and realized this might not be the place for us.
I called and was told my Lauren that that I I did not want the apartment that was fine, but I would lose my deposit, that was within 24 hours. One of the major reasons I decided to ignore the reviews and go forward was I have dogs
and I was under a lot of pressure because we had sold our house and needed to out. Knowing what I know now I never would have done it, Over the years there have been several issues in which as a building we had to argue beyond reason to have corrected. Shortly after we moved in my husband passed away. I really did not want to stay but between the grief and monumental task of moving all of our things, including a very large garage we rented from the reserve was overwhelming so I signed again in June 0f 17. Fast forward to June of 18 when my last day was th 24th of June, I received a few notices that I could leave on the 23rd or have the keys at the office on the 25th.
I work full time and needed the extra time to clean the unit which I did. I requested a walk thru on the 21st and no written response was given. I came in at 10am on the 25th and asked Dustin to walk through with me. He stated that he was very busy and he knew I had to go to work so I foolishly trusted him to report and manage the return of my deposit. Plus I had pictures so I felt I would be ok. When I got my statement there were two items I strongly disputed, and responded and they never responded. Today I called your UDR headquarters and this really is the brunt of my complaint or disappointment. I spoke with a woman I found very rude and came out of the gate in a accusatory voice. I was trying to explain my position, and what I got was attitude and talking over me in such a way that I could not speak or state my position and why I felt it was wrong. I made an observation that she was not being nice, and her tone was offensive. She proceeded to tell me she had bronchitis, that being the case she had
a attitude with bronchitis. It is very clear to me that now that I am no longer a resident, you have no use for me and whatever valid points I make, are not a concern of UDR. I also brought up the point that what they did refund was made out to my husbands name as well, even though he was not supposed to be on the lease when I signed in
July of 17. They took away his government discount in June of 17 but left him on the lease. I wanted an explanation fo rthat and what I heard was, because they could and he was not in the unit. In my mind you can't have it both ways you can't have him legally listed on the lease, and then not give the discount, but they did. Because they do what serves them best, fair or not. THey charged me 160 dollars to repair a small knick on the counter. I was told my maintenance when it first happened that its no big deal they have site buffers and paint, so to charge me 160 is not fair in my view. To charge me 25 dollars to "haul garbage" which contained of a sponge and a Lysol bleach bottle that I left in case they needed it for cleaning, was also outrageous, but again I was not given a rational or reasonable answer. They charged me for paint sample and a doorknob and shutters, for the patio, all of which I was instructed to leave upon my leaving. I asked this woman to speak to someone else that would be more
easy and open minded to speak to, and she said "no one will help you" I said I don't believe that" and she barked back that I called her a liar. I simply was saying that unless she is the owner, there must be someone else I can share my story with that does not have such a resentment towards me. I believe she was or is friends with the property manager at the reserve and this is why she was so rude. I am hoping that this does not happened to anyone again. But I definably would never recommend the reserve to anyone I know, even if I did not like them.
