About
Kristen Tully
Chiefly I am a daughter, and a sister, these are the roles I take most seriously. I am a compassionate, and curious woman, with broad interests ranging from environmentalism to personal enlightenment. My ambitions in the legal field lay primarily with advocacy, as well as in the prevention of unnecessary litigation. Family law reform is an area I can see myself dedicating time, and energy towards, as is the prevention of international armed conflict. Ultimately I would like to start my own conflict resolution practice, offering both ODR services, as well as face to face intervention strategies.
Views on the practice of law
I have struggled with the decision to become a lawyer, as one of my over arching career goals is to assist those that are marginalized, and to actuate change in our society. However, after much self-reflection I have come to the conclusion that involvement in the legal field - in the capacity of being a lawyer - is not the best way to fulfill my personal goals. I believe many aspects of the law have been perverted over a long, and steady period of time, with the entanglement of economics, and justice being the root cause of this. I would like to play a role in seeing a decline in litigation as a go-to method of resolving inter-personal disputes, as I believe that structured, and facilitated dialogue between two disputing parties is an extremely powerful means of not only solving conflict in the present, but of preventing conflict in the future.
Reason to be here
A strong belief in the financial accessibility of justice for all is a major motivator of mine, and PeopleClaim plays a predominant role in making the resolution of disputes financially possible for the majority of individuals. I am just beginning my career in Alternative Dispute Resolution, and I feel that interning with PeopleClaim would be a brilliant learning environment for me, and that I would be able to apply the knowledge gained during this internship to my future career goals.
